Tips For Effective Practicing
Practice regularly: For example, it is better to practice 20 minutes every day than 2 hours once a week
Break It up: You don't need to do all your practicing in one sitting. (For instance, if you are going to practice 30 minutes a day, you could do 10 minutes in the morning, 10 minutes when you get home and 10 minutes before bed).
Do not pass go, do not collect $200: If you are having difficulty with a particular section, stop and work on that part. (General rule of thumb is work on it until you can get it 3 times in a row correctly!).
Give it a rest: If you get too frustrated, take a break!
Practice slowly: …and evenly and gradually increase tempo
Jump to hyperspace: You don't always have to work beginning to end...sometimes you can jump to the more challenging sections or to the ending (for those who like to know the plot) and learn those first, and then go back and learn the rest.
Have patience! Learning an instrument is generally something you get better over time by consistent practice…don’t expect you will become an expert overnight!
Listen! Actively listen to lots of different music to get inspired!!
